Final Cut Pro 10.6.5 is nearly useable

Checking with the rest of the FCP community to see who's experiencing unacceptable sluggishness with FCP, especially on a loaded iMac Pro.

Before anyone suggested reloading the OS, blah blah, That's been done and the OS has nothing to do with FCP taking hours for should take minutes.

System Specs are:

MacOS 13.3.1

Model Name: iMac Pro

Model Identifier: iMacPro1,1

Processor Name: 10-Core Intel Xeon W

Processor Speed: 3 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 10

L2 Cache (per Core): 1 MB

L3 Cache: 13.8 MB

Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled

Memory: 64 GB

System Firmware Version: 1968.100.17.0.0 (iBridge: 20.16.4252.0.0,0)

Also connected vie Thunderbolt3 is an AMD Radeon 6800XT in a Razer Core Chroma enclosure.

Back to my point... FCP is horribly slow to the point it sometime takes hours to process a minute or two of 4K video from my canon R5. As a matter of fact, I currently have a 3 minute clip that is exporting to MP4 and has been for 2 hours - and is only @22%!

If I make any changes to a video clip, FCP want to re-render all the clips.

It's beyond me how Apple could sell such a POC video editor when they've been developing this application for well over a decade.

Is anyone having the same experience and did you have to move to Adobe Premier?

I don't want to go off on a rail here but after years of shoddy products and decades of Mac use... I'm considering "alternatives" at this point.

You have Chrome and its evil keystone daemons. They hog the system videotoolbox and cause serious damage to FCP and other video applications.

You have the nasty cleanmymac, often known around here as brickmymac.

These two things can easily cause the terrible experience you are having.

Completely uninstall cleanmymac. You will have to follow their instructions for this. It is not enough to drag it to the trash.

Completely uninstall chrome AND its keystone things. See https://chromeisbad.com for a thorough explanation of what they do and how to remove.

I am not familiar with acronis but it seems to be a security software of some sort. It’s possible that it is also contributing to the blockage.

After getting rid of two egregious problems you will need to delete and reinstall FCP from the App Store.

There could be other issues but those stand out.
