iphone scanning apps

Are there advantages of scanning apps over just taking pictures of documents? I purchased Adobe Scan for my iphone12 and the very first page I tested located edges of the paper only over typing on the page and omitted the entire left side with the photo on the page. If I'm wanting to scan quickly and efficiently, I don't want to be stopping to goof around with trying to redo the edges, or even missing that the scan app missed portions of the page. Isn't it overall better to just take a photo? Is the only difference that there could be background fragments in a photo?
