Phone number not associated to iPhone

I have this message on my iPhone & for several days I cannot get my number to associate with my phone. About a month ago I swapped networks & got a temporary number for a few hours whilst my old number ported over. It pitted fine & I receive texts & calls on this number. This is the number on my Apple ID.

The phone number in Settings-Phone-My number however is wrong.

I’ve tried changing it but it won’t save & reverts back to this. I’ve turned off Imessage & FaceTime, restarted my phone multiple times, reinserted the sim etc. I have added my number to my Apple ID - contactable at, but it doesn’t change/stop the count down date above & still won’t let me change my number.

Can anyone please help me associate my number to my phone? I’m at a loss, all I can find are the steps I’ve done above and it’s not working.

Thank you

I HAD the same issue. I tried a lot of steps and finally saw a simple statement that WORKED! I clicked where “in red” it said to remove the number from iMessage and FaceTime. Then I backed out of both iMessage and FaceTime and went back into them and selected my phone number again when it popped up. THIS FIXED IT in 1 minute after I had spent 45 minutes going through threads and turning stuff off and on, and rebooting several times. I hope this can help someone. It should be at the top of the “fixes”

I didn’t quite follow dapicso’s method but similar.

I turned off iMessage and FaceTime; I did turn off the phone for a few minutes (though I don’t think this matters); then WITH IMESSAGE AND FACETIME OFF I changed My Number under the Phone settings.

‘Save’ didn’t seem to do anything this time (it had been changing right back to the temporary number from my SIM) but I just used the back arrow and the correct, updated number stayed.

Now I went back to switch on iMessage and FaceTime and found that my proper number was no longer on a timer and the temporary SIM number was no longer an option. Hurrah.

Thanks for all of your replies. It’s not a corporate phone. I tried to follow your last reply & on pic 4 above there were 2 numbers listed. My number had the i next to it, the number I do not have didn’t. I tapped the number that I do not have… not sure what happened then but there was a spinning wheel for about a minute & then that number disappeared.

Now the number in settings - phone - my number is correct & the countdown message has gone. So thank you! You have solved the issue, much appreciated!

  1. Is this your corporate iPhone? Then please contact the system administrator of your corporate
  2. If it is your personal device, in that case, do you have any profile installed by your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management?
    1. Erase the profile added by you If you have installed a profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...
    2. Or please contact the system administrator of the organisation who provided the profile to you

Thank you so much, I have spent way too much time on this not knowing who to call I called my new provider and she said everything went good on her end so that was not very helpful she had no recommendations. And as the days counted down I became more concerned and all I had to do was exactly what you did. Thank you for sharing.

Just adding a me too on dapicso’s solution - Once you receive confirmation the phone number has switched over, remove the your time limited number, back out of the FaceTime settings. Go back in and select the mobile number that came with your sim. After a few moments the number changes to the number you transferred and then works. This also fixes ‘my number’ in the phone preferences.
