Ventura communication problems with scanner and printer

MacBook Air M1 with Ventura versions through to the present 13.3.1. Printer/scanner devices connected by WiFi to router, which in turn is connected to two printers by ethernet cables.

  • Ventura's Brother MFC-7440N CUPS 4.5.1 driver for my printer/scanner loses communication with the scanner until I delete and reinstall that auto-selected driver. If I pause use of the scanner for more than several minutes, communication is lost again requiring repeated deletion and reinstallation of the MFC printer driver, & etc. The printing function is not affected.

  • The printing menu of applications (e.g., in Safari) has the "Double-sided" switch unavailable (on/off is grayed-out) for my default HP Laserjet 4100n printer with duplexer. If I select a different printer from the drop-down menu and then reselect the default printer, only then does the Double-sided switch become available.

These problems did not exist before Ventura. Please help find the fix. Thank you.
