cannot use microphone while airpods are connected

Hello all, I have a unique audio issue where when I connect my Airpods Pros to my MacBook, it disables all of my microphone functions. For example, on google meets it says "microphone blocked by system", and discord and other apps just simply don't pick up any audio, even when I select the laptop's embedded mic as the output source. I have been having this issue for the past week and I have no idea what caused it.

For reference, I've gone through all of my microphone and privacy settings, enabled everything that needed to be, and tested other devices, such as my wired gaming headset. Every other test case works perfectly fine except for my Airpods, which magically lose their microphone abilities ONLY when connected to my Macbook (works fine on iPhone).
