So it sounds like I’ll need an adapter for a few more USB portals.
Correct, you need a couple of USB-C to USB-A adapters or a Hub.
For the Apple USB-C to USB adapter,
see > USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple
You can also use simple USB-C to USB-A adapters,

I have and use a few of the following Philips adapters with my newer Mac's,

Or a USB-A to USB hub or dock to add additional ports,

New iMacs have USB-C connections on the back (bottom right side) -- 2 or 4 depending on the model. See the following from iMac 24-inch - Technical Specifications - Apple
2 Thunderbolt / USB 4
2 USB3 and 2 Thunderbolt / USB 4
So it sounds like I’ll need an adapter for a few more USB portals. Darn.
