I don't want Face ID. Please stop reminding me to set it up.

After the most recent iOS update 16.4.1 a “1” appears on the Settings badge that I can’t get rid of: it wants me to “finish setting up my iPhone” by enabling Face ID. But I do not want to use Face ID — now or at any time in the foreseeable future.

If Apple is going to force me to use Face ID, I would like them to say so now so I can sell my iPhone while it’s still worth something.

Several users have posted variations on “I don't want Face ID” or "How to disable Face ID” to this Community. Somehow their statements have been misinterpreted as “Face ID is disabled” and a link has been provided at the top of the discussion directing them to a “Related Article: If an alert says Face ID has been disabled on your iPhone or iPad Pro.” One topic shows that 120 people have the same unanswered question.

You’re breaking my heart, Apple. I’ve been a true believer since 1991.

One last attempt. ;-)

Same here. It's harassing me and in the settings it's all 100% turned off. This needs to stop. I will not ever use it, and I'm not okay with it trying to get me to set it up every day or so.

Start the setup, but don't complete it. For many things, that's enough to stop the prompt.

Or, set it up and then immediately turn it off and don't ever use it.

I did call TS. My AppleCare+ is still in effect, yeah! The answer was: "I guess there is nothing you can do to get rid of that prompt.” I don't think I got a straight answer to whether or not Apple is going to make Face ID a deal-breaker or not. Thanks again.

Thanks for your efforts on my behalf, Lemnos, but that link was created in 2019; today, there is no option to “set up later" for Face ID. I do appreciate your attempt. Thank you.
