iPhone 14 Pro Crashes multiple times per week

My iPhone 14 Pro crashes. A LOT. Sometimes multiple times per day.

It almost always happens when I switch from one app to another, like from Mail to Safari or from YouTube to Messaging.

I don't think I have very many apps, at least, not enough to make the phone crash. I rarely run more than 10 apps at a time, and streaming doesn't seem to be the culprit. As a PC user in all other aspects of life, I am trained to reboot every couple of days (although the crashing usually does that for me).

I'm running iOS 16.3.1. Any ideas? If feels like I just have a lemon of a phone.

Hi FreshOutofUserNames,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like your iPhone stops responding unexpectedly, is that right? Do you mean that it restarts when you say it crashes? We just want to be sure we're on the same page with you.

If you're noticing this behavior only when switching between certain apps, this resource will show you how to troubleshoot your apps by updating the app or the iOS: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

If your iPhone is restarting unexpectedly, check out this article which explains how to check your iPhone hardware: If your iOS or iPadOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly - Apple Support

"Check your hardware

On an iPhone 6 or later, check your battery health under Settings > Battery > Battery Health.

If your battery doesn't need service, and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch continues to frequently restart or turn off, contact Apple Support.

If your apps quit unexpectedly, learn what to do.

If your device has a frozen screen, doesn't respond, or becomes stuck when you turn it on, learn what to do for iPhoneiPad, or iPod touch."

This is also a great resource to help you to troubleshoot performance issues such as networks and storage to isolate this behavior further: If your iPhone or iPad is running slow - Apple Support

"Make sure you have enough storage

If your device is low on storage, iOS or iPadOS automatically frees up space while installing an app, updating iOS or iPadOS, downloading music, recording videos, and more. iOS or iPadOS only removes items that can be downloaded again or that aren't needed anymore.

You can check your device's storage in Settings > General > [Device] Storage. For best performance, try to maintain at least 1GB of free space. If your available storage is consistently less than 1GB, your device might slow down as iOS or iPadOS repeatedly makes room for more content.

If you need to free up some space, follow these steps to turn on the storage-saving recommendations built in to iOS or iPadOS:

  1. Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage and read the recommendations that iOS or iPadOS might provide.
  2. Tap Enable to turn on a recommendation, or tap a recommendation title to review the content that you can delete.

If you don't see any recommendations — or if you need to free up even more space — you can review the apps on your device. They're listed on the same [Device] Storage screen along with the amount of space that they use.

Tap an app, then choose from the options:

  • Offload the app, which frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data.
  • Delete the app, which removes the app and its related data.
  • Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of its documents and data.

We hope this helps you.

Cheers!
