iPhone 13 Pro flashlight turns itself on randomly

I have not allowed access to the camera by the flashlight, made sure it is not allowed to turn on with taps, but the flashlight turns itself in when sitting on a table by itself, no one touching it, just a glaring light suddenly comes on. Then of course you can’t turn it off since it doesn’t have access to the camera. I would rarely like to have access to the flashlight but at this rate it will end up deleted, I can’t have it turning itself on and using up the battery randomly. Who ever thought up putting it on the shut off screen really pulled a major fault, I first noticed that it turns on in my pocket, so I looked up how to stop it or delete it from the off screen, which can’t be done apparently. I followed directions to keep off by not allowing access, but it still comes on. Then I checked the accessibility settings, they were set properly. Then I set the rise to wake off. All these things just make it harder to use the iPhone, 8 can no longer tap or pick up to wake the phone, but the light still comes on when it feels like it. I have discovered that I can go to the camera and it will turn off, but in the mean while it runs down the battery when it turns itself on.

Hi there Goldenrodfarm,

The flashlight function should not enable itself, regardless of your iPhone settings. If you find that the flashlight is turning on without requesting it, we would suggest some troubleshooting to help isolate the issue and work toward a resolution.

To start this process, make sure your iPhone has the latest version of the iOS software. For an iPhone 13, that is currently iOS 16.4.1: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. Not only will this ensure your device has all the latest features and security enhancements, but it will also address a variety of issues found in previous versions of iOS.

If the issue persists after an iOS update, please follow the steps outlined in the Apple Support article If the screen isn't working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support, which you can find below. These steps provide guidance on addressing a display that is too sensitive, and may respond as if it has received input when it has not:

1. Restart your iPhone or iPad.
2. Make sure that your screen is clean and free of any debris or water.
3. Disconnect any Lightning or USB-C accessories. If your screen works after removing an accessory, try using a different outlet, cable, or charger.
4. Remove any cases or screen protectors.

Should you still need help after that, please get in touch with Apple Support directly. They will have the tools and resources needed to further investigate why the flashlight seems to come on on its own. You can do that here: Get Support.

Have a fantastic weekend!
