Separate routing of sound vs image on Apple TV

I used to run an Apple TV 3rd gen, with optical port connected to my AV Receiver (non HDMI) for sound on 6 speakers, and HDMI connected to DVI projector for the image. Connected to Ethernet.

The movie file is on a MacMini connected to Ethernet/wifi.

I just upgraded to Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) which does not have the optical and both sound and image are routed to my projector, which only has basic speakers. Connected to Ethernet/and or wifi

Questions:

1- Is there a way with Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) to get the sound to my my old AV receiver (non HDMI) (and then to my 6 speakers), whilst image goes to projector ?

2- Would the old Apple TV 3rd gen still send the sound via optical , whilst image is sent to projector via my wifi (current projector is too far away for HDMI cable) ?

Thanks!

  1. you can get various hdmi audio extractor boxes Amazon.com : HDMI Audio Extractor
  2. yes it would

mind you not all versions of DVI support HDCP High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection - Wikipedia

if the hdmi in the projector does not then it will not be able to display media protected with hdcp
