Delete Google photos also deleted iPhoto

this is a little confusing, so I hope I’m explaining properly.

Every single picture I take with my iPhone saves a copy to the Google photo app. That is filling up and they want to charge for storage. I thought I could delete photos out of Google and then unhook it from my Apple photos but when I did that I double checked my iPhoto‘s and they were gone from there as well. Why is a deletion from a Google photo app deleting from my iPhoto??
