printer problems

Hoping someone can help. My printer was not printing documents. I re-booted it and now cannot add the printer. There are no printer options that appear when I go to "printers & scanners".

Thanks for any guidance.

If your printer isn't printing documents from your MacBook Air running macOS X 10.13, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. **Check Connection:** Make sure the printer is properly connected to your MacBook Air, either via USB or Wi-Fi. Check cables and ensure the printer is turned on.

2. **Printer Power:** Ensure that the printer has enough paper and ink or toner, and that there are no paper jams or other physical issues.

3. **Printer Queue:** Sometimes, documents get stuck in the print queue. Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," select your printer, and check if there are any documents in the queue. If there are, try deleting them and re-printing.

4. **Printer Driver:** Ensure you have the latest printer driver installed. You might need to download and install the correct driver from the printer manufacturer's website.

5. **Restart Devices:** Restart both your MacBook Air and the printer. This can often resolve temporary communication issues.

6. **Software Updates:** Make sure your MacBook Air's operating system and printer driver are up to date by checking for software updates.

7. **Default Printer:** Confirm that your printer is set as the default printer. You can do this in "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."

8. **Reset Printing System:** As a last resort, you can try resetting the printing system. Right-click or control-click in the "Printers & Scanners" preferences pane, then select "Reset printing system." Note that this will remove all printers from your system, so you'll need to re-add them.

9. **Firewall and Security Software:** Sometimes security software or firewalls can block printing. Check if any such software is interfering with the printing process.

10. **Test with Another Device:** If possible, try printing from another device to see if the issue is specific to your MacBook Air.

11. **Contact Support:** If none of the above steps work, you might need to contact the printer manufacturer's support or Apple Support for further assistance.

Remember that the exact steps might vary slightly based on your printer model and the specific version of macOS you're using.
