I just want a good player for music i already have on my phone. I don’t like the player that comes with iOS as the randomizer does not work right and I’ve seen all the arguments but regardless, it does not.

For about three months i used an android phone and about the only thing i did like about it was that it kept a memory of the last song played along with the randomized stack. I would like that very much.

i don’t need to download through the player, i don’t need web access through the player i don’t need a fancy equalizer in the player i don’t need pretty pictures on my screen. All i want is a good quality player hopefully with memory stored randomizer and place marker as described above.

Can anyone help? i tried looking for one but it appears i would have to audition countless apps!!!

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

I used to use Smart Shuffle a lot: https://apps.apple.com/app/id342320176

It can play any audio that appears in the Music app. It knows how to shuffle a selection of albums, but still play the tracks within each album in order. It usually remembers where it left off, but switching back to the Music app can confuse it.

It still works and is actively updated. I just don’t use it often anymore.

The VLC App works quite well for music, although it is primarily known as a video player. You can transfer your own music and play it offline either via computer, via Wi-Fi from your browser, or let the app read your files from your Cloud services, e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.

The app is 100% free, with no annoying ads or anything else to spoil the experience, and it is updated regularly. In addition, it can play pretty much everything - so it's a really good all around player for playing your own music and videos if you need it in the future. It is a Must Have app.

You can download VLC in App Store from your iPhone here
