This is a followup of the following question, which does not reply to the OP's question:

The question was:

I changed my Apple ID username from one email address to another. How do I change this in the iCloud for windows app on my laptop? It won't let me change the username.

The response was clearly missing the point, showing that the author did not understand the question.

The Apple ID is an e-mail-address, although it is not neccesarily an e-mail associated with icloud.

Hence, changeing the Apple ID, means changing it from one address to another.

However, the Windows iCloud App does not allow changing the Apple ID. It simply continues to pop-up and ask to insert the new password. Although having the old Apple ID as an alias, it does not allow to log in. It also provides no option to log out or, the original question, to change the Apple ID.

This should be considered a bug in the iCloud app. I'm using iCloud for Windows v14.1.108.0

The only way I found was to reset the app's data

Open Start button
Open Settings
Open App
Search for the iCloud app, click on it
Click on Advanced Options
Click on Terminate to stop all related processes
Click on Reset to remove the apps data (this appears to not delete your syncronized files of fotos)
Click on Start again
Search for the iCloud app and start it
Enter your new Apple ID and password ...

I uninstalled the app on my windows PC - that did it. The problem I'm having is that my iphone still shows my old email address under my name when I look at my appleID on my phone. I also get a mystery message - in settings I have a tab called "update apple ID settings" - when I click continue - an icon briefly spins and then ... noting the error just sits there.

Thank You! This solution worked well for me. I was having such a hard time finding this answer, most other places just referred us to the process for login onto a different iCloud account online vs. actually changing your userid associated with your iCloud account saved on your PC.

@Ladyfra You are amazing and a lifesaver! This worked like a charm, and I am so grateful I had to post this official thank you! The iCloud popup window on my personal laptop that had my old Apple email ID on it was popping up on the screen every 30 seconds, and it was seriously driving me crazy! All is well again. 🫡🤗

Hello ladyfra, I have tried this twice with no success. The old apple id continues to appear in the ID box. Have you any other idea as to how to get past this? Many thanks.
