Mail not showing images in emails

Mail v 16.0. Emails are not showing image content. Recently I moved from one hosting provider to another, and this is when it started. I don't know if it is an issue with my local Mail client, or something server related? I have done some research, so in Mail > Settings > "Block Remote All Remote Content" is unchecked.

Thanks for any guidance

Actually when Hide IP is unchecked, images do show up. It was unpredictable in that way for several days, but just testing it now images do show up. Does unchecking that expose my IP address to anything malicious? Thank you for you response

Where did you find a button to press?

I've toggled Settings > Privacy > Block All Remote Contact off/on but it doesn't make a difference (even after relaunching the app or rebooting the computer).

FYI, images do load:

  • In other desktop email apps (Edison, God-Awful Outlook)
  • iOS Mail app

This isolates the problem to the desktop Mail app.

Hey, I found strange that early this week all my emails started to not show external images anymore, having to press "Load Remote Content" all the time. But the same way it stopped to show remote content, then suddenly it was back working correctly again - I have configured my computer to log in and out from time to time, so it was probably a refresh during this period of time. I would recommend to simply restart your computer and see if that works (I know this solution it sounds extremely Microsoft, but it did work for me) — I hope this process, of restarting the computer, does not become a new standard for apple, as this was one of the things I gave up using MS.

It's rather unpredictable actually. I just sent an email to myself with an image and it did display. Some images do display, like a logo, or in the signature. But other emails that are composed in html do not show images. My email is a POP account, not sure if that affects this issue.

In my webmail, images are displaying, and also sometimes they automatically delete after downloaded to my desktop. But not always. At this point this issue is irritating but not yet debilitating.

You mentioned that Block All Remote Content is unchecked, does the same still happen if the Hide IP Address is unchecked at Mail > Settings > Privacy?

It is more than likely that the emails that are not showing the content are doing so that the sender cannot guess your general location from your IP Address.

If you have the Protect Mail Activity unchecked in the same setting location, try to turn it on instead of the settings below it.

Are the images showing as an Attachment?

Have you tried sending yourself a png or picture from Photos, so you know the format of the attachment?

Your email server may limit the size of emails you receive, so that might be the best place to look. Is there a web portal for viewing emails with this email provider to see if they show up there? Maybe the name of the email company will help with diagnosing the problem.

I can confirm my settings are set the same way and I have no trouble with images not showing. I would want to keep it set that way to alleviate any security concerns. The real question is why is the picture in the email requesting your IP address to guess your approximate location. Any more info possible?
