it would only ever be able to provide you with it's near location when ever another person with an iphone with bluetooth enabled was within bluetooth range (some 30 meters) of the tag at all other times it would be dead in the water.

Simply “Place a Pin” in your Apple Maps - and give it a name meaningful to you - to return to any location.
