I can't open AirTags to replace batteries

I can't get my air tags open to replace batteries- all 3 of them. After trying the recommend process several times, I resorted to running a slim knife edge between the base and cover. Still no luck. Any other ideas?

Try using a kitchen lid remover, one of those little rubber pieces that you use to give you a better grip. My wife and I were struggling with removing one and she put the gripper between her thumbs and the back and it came right off. She’s brilliant.

What other have described as “no budge” counterclockwise. This happened to me. I went to Batteries + Bulbs and the customer service said this is the first time they’ve not been able to undo the AirTag to put new battery in. My thought was I’ll have to go to an Apple Store that’s inconvenient to my location. But then at home, an idea occurred to me. I used the circular rubber jar gripper. Folded over so grip is on bottom and grip is on top, then turn/push counter clockwise. And it worked. Voila.

I had the same problem with Duracell batteries not working in my AirTag. I then tried EverReady and Panasonic and both worked no problem. The AirTag has some pins it uses to connect to the positive and negative sides the batteries and there must be a coating or something that prevents a good contact. Other devices that use these batteries make their connections to the battery in a different manner. So change the battery brand to EverReady or Panasonic and you should be good to go.

So today we had a sticky AirTag which would not close again after battery replacement. Ended up with my husband chucking it in the bin, battery, Belkin case and all after fiddling with it for what seemed like an hour... I rescued it. After some 30 minutes of wrestling and some choice language, I think he did manage to get it back together. We've changed batteries before on other ones and never had such problems. We are older adults, one with arthritic hands, (the other just not as strong as I used to be.) Any tips would be appreciated for future reference because I'm not sure I can handle another afternoon of swearing..! I can't really see what use pliers would be. I tried with gloves to give better grip (leather, then rubber house gloves) but all to no avail. If the AirTag won't close properly then neither will the case close over it. I think a redesign might be in order.
