wacom tablets don’t work in Ventura

I can’t use any of Wacom tablets on Ventura.

First, I tried installing the drivers for Wacom Intuos pen and touch and it had some security issues - no matter how many times i have enabled it, the tablet wasn’t recognized and unable to use because it is registered as second party product. I even had to force shut down because the whole system was crashing while the tablet was connected.

These days I’m trying to connect Intuos Pro M - after installing the drivers successfully the tablet doesn’t detect any pen motion and the Wacom Center app is not responding at all. I have contacted the Wacom support and tried all the listed possible solutions, and since it didn’t make any difference I was directed to contact Apple support.

Needles to say this is very frustrating for all of using those tablets professionally every day.

If there is any way to make those tablets work, I would be happy to try it out.

Since I don't use my Intuos PT M tablet a lot, I didn't notice it wasn't working in Ventura until seeing your topic. Every time I touched the pen to tablet, a message was popping up about something not being on in the System Settings. Except, they were on.

Per a suggestion on a site I visited, I uninstalled the drivers, and used EasyFind to track down all other pieces the driver installs (there's a lot of them) and cleared those out, too. Then I reinstalled the latest drivers. Still no luck. Same message.

I finally found a page for the issue on Wacom's site. After going around in a circle with the manual instructions in Step 4 two or three times, I finally got it working.

After days of frustration with getting my (old) Wacom CTL490 to work with new MacBook Air (Ventura), I finally got it to work. Here’s how:

  1. Follow the steps from https://machow2.com/wacom-tablet-driver/ Basically that is uninstall driver (I used the suggested AppCleaner tool), remove the com.apple.sytemprefs.plist file
  2. Reinstall driver, restart again

I did several variations of this, still with no luck - the tablet settings showed up in in system settings, but a touch with the pen triggered the blocked permission message, telling me to make sure the Accessiblity and Input Monitoring have Wacom enabled. Of course they did. Over and over.

What finally clued me in was the mention that if I could not toggle those settings on, remove them from the list (in Privacy & Security/Accessibilty and Input Monitoring) and restart again. Well, the settings were on already. But I noticed if I tried to toggle them Off, they just bounced back to On.

`3. So I removed those two things, restarted with the tablet attached, and voila!! it worked

I hope this is not a fluke and it works for whoever else tries - so bloody frustrating, my sympathies.

Yes, you've put in more detail what I meant by going around about three times. You remove things, they come back. It still doesn't work. You remove them again and restart. Still doesn't work. Turn the settings off and restart, turn the settings back on. Whatever sequence finally gets things to stick correctly.

Of course, none of this would be necessary if Wacom would write the drivers to work without all of this nonsense in the first place.

sadly, after wasting almost an entire day starting, restarting, installing, deinstalling... you name it, I've done it after endless back and forth between the Intuos tech support - if its so easy why don't they just remote in and fix it? I know why. Anyhow, nothing worked. The Intuos is now is now on then. bottom of the drawer never to see daylight again. The mouse may be like editing with with a brick... but it's reliable and it does what it says it will do.

Yup. Did the same uninstall/reinstall steps at least a dozen times. Including using EasyFind a couple of times to locate every bit and piece the installer drops all over the drive to remove them before trying again.

Why did it finally work? Who the heck knows since I didn't do anything different from the multiple attempts before then.

I gave up after an entire 8 hour day trying to get the Wacom Tablet CTH490HK to work with my MACbook Pro / Ventura. As I am a casual user, I have given up. This tablet is now considered by me to be junk and will be dealt with accordingly. Wast of money. Wacom needs to get their act together. They have put the burden on the customer rather than provide an acceptable plug and play solution for MAC/Ventura users.

Yes… my experience precisely. I’ve done everything from reinstalling the app a dozen times after following Wacom’s product support instructions to the letter… finally they recommended a fresh install of Ventura. Sounded nowhere near it to me… but I did it anyway. No surprises when I say it made no difference. A $600 tablet is now as useless as a fart in a windstorm. It’s now off the desk until Wacom actually resolve its incompatibility issues with MAC OS

I finally got it to work doing these steps.

First disconnect the Wacom?Cintiq devices then…

1. Go to your Applications folder in Finder, and delete the Wacom Tablet folder.

2. Click on Go (up on the menu bar of your Mac), and then go to Computer.

3. Click to open your hard drive (by default named Macintosh HD).

4. Open the Library folder.

5. Check for and delete any of the following, if found:

    1. Library/Application Support> delete the Tablet folder.

    2. Library/Frameworks> delete the WacomMultiTouch.framework

    3. Library/Launch Agents> delete any “com.wacom…” items found here.

    4. Library/LaunchDaemons> delete any “com.wacom…” items found here.

    5. Library/PreferencePanes> delete WacomTablet.prefpane and WacomCenter.prefpane

    6. Library/Preferences> delete the Tablet folder.

    7. Library/PriviledgedHelperTools> delete any “com.wacom…” items found here.

6. Empty your Trash

7. Download and install the driver: https://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/professional/WacomTablet_6.3.46-2.dmg

Plug them in and restart.

 Also if needed….

Open your System Preferences /Security and Privacy

Scroll to the input monitoring Option

Check the Wacomtablet driver

Click on quit and reopen if it shows up

Test the tablet

I found this worked for me:

I uninstalled the Wacom drivers using the Wacom Tablet Utility app in the Applications-Wacom folder

I restarted the machine (A Mac Studio running Ventura)

I then downloaded the drivers from Wacom website and reinstalled them.

I rebooted the machine again

The Wacom Centre fired up OK but the pen still generated that Security based error message so I opened System Prefs and removed the Wacom references from Security-Accessibility and Security-Input Monitoring

I rebooted the machine again and Wacom dialogues popped up asking for the two items just removed to be enabled, which I did.

Rebooted again and the pen worked fine.

I hope this works for you.
