Removing water from a 7 series

Older watchOS versions unlocked the water lock by spinning the digital crown, quickly, multiple times.

That proved to be confusing for some users.

Newer watchOS versions remove the water lock by pressing and holding the digital crown.

Presumably, that is less confusing.

The water lock does not change, nor alter, nor control the water resistance in any fashion. The water lock locks or unlocks the touch screen controls, and the unlock uses speaker membrane movements to eject water that can be retained in the speaker cavity and that would otherwise mute the speaker.

That indicates you are using watchOS 8.

According to How to use Water Lock and eject water from your Apple Watch "* If your Apple Watch has watchOS 8 or earlier, rotate the Digital Crown instead of pressing it."
