VLC playback issue MacMini 2012 w/ Intel HD Graphics 4000

I suppose that the issue I am having in playing back any video files on my MacMini late 2012)

is related to the Graphics Card : Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

Or possibly the macOS I have loaded on it : Mojave 10.14

An example of the issue I’m experiencing : when I use the video player app

VLC (3.0.18) the file opens to a black floating dialogue box. Which slowly changes it size ,

to the original dimensions perhaps, all the while flashing.

To which there is no actual video or audio output.

Same for other media player apps as well such as Cisdem Video player 5.6,

XMBC 13. Or UMPlayer 0.5 which just crashes.

Quicktime Player works just fine. However I would prefer to be

able to utilize the playlist feature, load subtitles, and other features of VLC.

Yes, the MacMini has iTunes, & NO I would prefer to not have to use it for these purposes.

I have since found some alternative to VLC, such as Wondershare Filmora9, which works to an extent.

I am wondering specifically if others have had the same issue with running

VLC on such a Model of MacMini and what if anything may resolve that issue.

Earlier Mac models

I found an alternative to the VLC Player app, the Elmedia Player app performs just like it.
