Compressor 4.6.3

Since this new version of Compressor was automatically installed all of my attempts at compressing my mp4 files keep failing. I had no issues at all with previous versions.

I am on iMac 2017, Monterrey 12.6.4

Should I uninstall and reinstall the previous version? If so how do I access the previous version please?

The first thing you should do is switch off all auto updates in both the App Store and in System Preferences.

Unless you've kept an older version of Compressor or can find it on a TM or other backup drive, it's not readily available from Apple.

Which version did you update from? Compressor has been working with MPEG-4 files, encoding them or encoding to them, without problems that I've heard of. The issue might not be related to the update.

Hi Tom - many thanks for helping me with this. It was updated from the previous version (automatically) and unfortunately I have not kept a back up. It's a shame that Apple do not facilitate a roll-back option on their software.

Anyway, I produce videos on a weekly basis and have been using FCPX and Compressor since 2014 and have never had this issue with Compressor. I have not changed my workflow or settings at all, so for me it points to a Compressor problem. Maybe 4.6.3 only works on Ventura?

OK thanks Tom. I am reverting to outputting a master file from FCP and using Handbrake to compress the file. Not ideal as I can't select the settings I'd like but at least it works. Have 57 dance videos to process so will have to go with that, unfortunately.

I will try uninstalling Compressor and reinstalling it with fingers crossed that solves it. Appreciate your help.

Easy. In Compressor create your export setting (you probably did already, as you are a frequent user and I suppose you use that setting again and again).

In FCP go to Preferences->Destinations. There is Compressor Settings in the right. Drag to the list on the left, then choose the setting you want to use. I suggest you rename the destination to make it clear what it is. You can have more than one, too.
