Lately when I receive a text on my iPhone, then open Messages on my Mac, it asks me on the Mac to sign in to my Apple account.
The message I received on the iPhone does not display in Messages on the Mac.
This just started a few days ago.

It sounds as if you need to turn on Text Message Forwarding. On your iPhone, go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forward and select your Mac.
