For the past couple weeks i have not been able to send or receive pictures and audio recordings. They come up as question marks and i cannot open them. Whats going on? I already updated my iphone and made sure i am connected to WiFi/internet.

I have experienced it once that an image was delivered with a "Question Mark" - I pressed the "Download" icon on the image and soon after I could see the image.
Try closing your Messages app completely. Swipe from the bottom up to the middle to get to the App Switcher, and swipe the message app up and away. Then turn off your iPhone, wait a minute and turn on again. Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or Mobile Data, and then open the Messages app again - go to the message, if the images are not downloaded automatically, then try pressing the "Download" button, as marked with an arrow in the image below.
