Why can’t the Apple Watch be used to take your temperature on demand? It only records it at night?
so if I have a fever I still have to use a thermometer and the built in one is useless

We can't answer why Apple designed Apple Watch how they did questions. This is a user to user only forum. From everything I know, temperature on demand is simply not a feature of Apple Watch.
