Why do we keep sliding backwards? Emojis used to be correctly sent between iphones and androids, but for about 9 months I have been getting all question marks from an android user even though he updated his operating system and so did I.

My partner went to 2 different AT&T stores regarding his newish Android phone. They both told him there was nothing he could do about sending question marks instead of emojis. Then I found this fix from 4 years ago on an AT&T blog and it worked!!!
Step 1. Open Messages
Step 2. Press 3 dots in the upper right corner
Step 3. Press Settings and then more settings
Step 4. Press Text Messages
Step 5. Press Input Mode and change to automatic
If that happens with one correspondent only, I think the issue is on his/her device.
