Photo management when traveling...jpg and raw??

I'm figuring out a photo management system when traveling. Initially, I imported everything into my MacBook Pro but the RAW files were huge!! Now, I'm using image capture to save RAW photo's to an external ssd drive.

Now, I have a MacBook Pro to accomplish that. Is that still possible with an iPad Pro or MacBook Air?

What I want: immediate access to jpg photo's for minor editing and to post to my blog. Separate library of RAW photo's for more detailed work later.

Looking for the simplest and smoothest method to do this. Thank you!
