my caret symbol is part of the control key, how do I get the caret symbol in excel? Usually is over the 6, or in the right side of the keyboard, but not in mine

If you prefer having it over the 6, go to system preferences > keyboard > input sources and make sure there is only one item on the list, and that the name of this item is US or ABC. Remove another other items, such as Spanish or Latin American.

Sounds like a Spanish keyboard. Is that right? On Spanish, ^ is Shift ` followed by space (the key next to P)

If Latin American, ^ is option shift { (the key next to ñ)

What language is your keyboard set to? In what country did you buy your MBA? On my keyboard set to English on an English (U.S) hardware keyboard, shift + 6 gets ^, shift +4 gets $

The carat over the Control key is to tell you how that key is represented in menus.

Go to  > System Settings > Keyboard > Edit (under Input Sources)

Verify the correct keyboard is there. Also turn on the first setting to Show Input menu in Menubar.

Choose the newly created icon in the menu bar and choose "Show Keyboard Viewer". Mine looks like this:

Is the caret visible here other than where the Control key is?

What character is printed at Shift-6?

The symbols over Control, Option, and Command keys are not printable with key combinations, but you should still have the Caret symbol.

Is this on your MacBook Air running OS 12.5?
