New scanners for MAC

I purchased a new Mac 24" last month. I had been using the same Epson 4490 photo scanner with my old Mac since purchasing the scanner in 2006. Many thousands of photos, documents, etc later, I'm in need for a new scanner. Any suggestions out there? Also interested in a photo bed that scans larger than the typical ones on the market but don't want to break the bank.

VueScan requires a compatible Epson Perfection 4490 driver for this scanner to support it. Epson may no longer provide one for Ventura, and flatbed photo scanners that also have a 35mm and large format slide trays will be expensive now, especially from Epson.

The Epson Perfection V500, V550, and v600 scanners require a compatible Epson driver for VueScan support, but the V700, V800, and V850 models are supported by VueScan Professional without any Epson drivers. The posts in the community about users installing supposedly compatible Epson drivers for the first three scanner models, and the epic reported compatibility fails, should steer anyone clear of those models if considering a new or used purchase for use with macOS Monterey or Ventura.

Canon appears to be retreating from the high end Photo/Slide/document scanner business and if you can still find a 9000F Mark II, it can be driven by VueScan Professional without Canon drivers.

Thank you for the response. When I try to reinstall the scanner to the Mac, the 4490 does not show up on the printer/scanner drop down.

I tried to add the Epson scanner to the “add printer “ drop down with manufacturer name but the 4490 does not show in the list. I went to the Epson site but could not find the 4490 updated driver. I’m waiting for a response from their help desk.
