As best as I can determine, this started when I updated my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS version 16.4.1.
I have an Apple Watch 8 running watchOS 9.4.
Do I need to have to reset my Watch and re-pair with iPhone? If so, how do I reset the watch to factory settings?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.

Thanks for your reply. I did an unpairing, reset and re-pairing of my Appple Watch 8.
No go. Messages still crashes when trying to read or create a message on the Watch.
Unfortunately seems like I need to make an appointment and waste time at the Genius Bar. 🥲
