fingerprint ID stopped working and went dim
Fingerprint ID has worked for the last 18 months, and then just stopped. I went to systems and the Touch ID icon is not even appearing. How to get it back?

Troubleshooting Touch ID:
Verify Compatibility:
(Applies to Intel-Based Macs Only): Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. Updates), system configurations (i.e. for Power) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Try performing each thrice. It may take sometime, being certain you have the time to perform these resets.

Thank you for the quick reply. I tried to reset NVRAM and here's what happened. I turned off computer, ,waited a couple minutes, then held down control option P and R and restarted. But it immediately went to Apple Logo and the usual start up routine. Again I appreciate your efforts, thanks Kevin

You are welcome.
So, where do things stand? Are you all set? Or is it stuck at the Apple logo? Or is it something else?
I ended up contacting Apple Support. I learned that IMac does not have a way to reset NVRAM. They took me into safe mode, did some things to reset the keyboard, and after that it all started working.
