AppleTV doesn't work on Roku but every other app does. What gives?

  1. Hi! PLEASE do NOT tell me to "verify that your router doesn’t block Apple’s servers (or its CDN) through a firewall setting." because I DO NOT underSTAND what that MEANS.
  2. Why does every other app on my roku work but I can never stream the new shows on appleTV+? I am honestly desperately trying to watch your product and I have been trying for two days now. I just want to see Ana de Armas and the hot guy from Marvel make out. PLEASE. PLEASE HELP.
  3. If you *were* to tell me to "Verify that your router doesn’t block Apple’s servers (or its CDN) through a firewall setting" can you please walk me through what that would mean on a Roku device? (literally I have googled. I'm not a genius bar genius but I know some stuff about technology but not this legit gibberish. What is happening.
  4. Help me.

Another user (mygreensocks) suggested this procedure from Roku Support staff, which reportedly helped several users.

1. Remove the Apple TV app,
2. Shut off and unplug the Roku TV (or Roku streaming device),
3. Wait 30 seconds,
4. Plug the TV (or streaming device) back in,
5. Reload the Apple TV app.

Else try the Network Connection Reset, as mentioned by user Jarieta.

I don't know if this helps , that same "warning" when my apple app a of a sudden stopped playing, I checked my Internet connection, router, reset it, I have 2 remotes for my Firesticks, I fig I would try my other remote as I was using the same remote during all these resets for 3 days trying to figure out why the videos weren't playing I reset all the stuff and then I figured I had nothing to lose so I tried the other remote and the videos started to play again I don't know if this helps but maybe reset your remote or try a different remote if that's possible I know it worked for me Hopefully this helps somebody else. I'm not saying this is the solution but it was for my apple app and I tried all the resettings and stuff and nothing worked except a different remote Good luck

Hi. It seems you are quoting a line from one of my previous posts. I don’t know why on your Roku, the Apple TV app doesn’t seems to work. It does seems to work for many other Roku users. My conclusion from that is, that something about your setup or settings is likely different from theirs.

So, in that previous post I listed a couple of things to check that might be different. If you (or anyone else) never manually configured a firewall for your home that excluded specific servers, in some cases maybe excluding Apple servers, then that line does not apply to you. Some people like to tinker with that, and then that may get them in connectivity problems that could explain the described behavior.

If that previous post didn’t bring you clues for a better working app, then please ask the Apple Support staff what they can do for you.

I have the same problem (i.e., other services stream fine with the Roku; only Apple TV is glitchy), but it's intermittent (every few months). I reset the Apple app, but now it doesn't let me sign in, so I removed the app. Apple TV is really making me crave old timey TV. I just paid the bill, so now I have to see about getting a refund. TV shouldn't be complicated.
