Chromecast audio “something went wrong” issue when setting up chromcast
After years of this driving me nuts, using google home on an iphone, trying to set up chromecasts that would appear, or disappear, or get “something went wrong messages”, i found the solution. Or they would be set up and then disappear from apos like spotify and youtube music.
connecting over wifi is usually connecting to either 2.4 or 5ghz bands. You actually have 2 bands on offer to select from, which computers and android devices will show you the 2 as options in wifi settings. They will appear as [wifi name] 2.4 or [wifi name] 5
iPhones do not differentiate the 2.4 and 5 bands for wifi: your only option will be [wifi name]. iPhones swap between 2.4 and 5 depending on where you are in the home. Its clever, but in this instance it makes life infuriating
2.4 ghz is great when you are a long way away from the modem and using low data, like music streaming. Chromecast audio only uses 2.4. 5ghz is for video and when you are close to the modem.
What you have to do is manually get into your modem using address like 192.1.1 or similar, locate the 2 bands, and rename one of them so that the iphone is forced to surface them both as options when connecting the chromecast to the wifi when setting it up in google home. You must connect it to the 2.4 band.
this will allow easy set up
when you want to cast music, you need to select the 2.4 band from the phone for wifi so chromecast and phone are on the same band. Then casting is possible
i did this 4 months ago and it has not failed.
