My Apple Mail (15.0) search function has COMPLETELY stopped working. How to I fix it?

Any search in macOS relies on Spotlight.
Try resettig Spotlight.
In Terminal, paste the following
sudo mdutil -E /
type your password as requested (there is no feedback as you type), and press enter.
Give it a few minutes to reindex.
