Thank you for the reply. This is interesting. I did a test with three scenarios. First I captioned a random photo in my Photos app on my iPhone, then
- Sent it to my Downloads folder on my laptop using Airdrop (with the Captions & All Photos Data options selected). I opened the photo in Preview and opened the Inspector > More Info > TIFF and the Image Description field does not appear as it does in your screen capture. I also tried selecting the file > Get Info in the Finder and the caption is not there either.
- I then sent the photo (as above) to my laptop and and opened it in Photos then Get Info and the caption was there in the Captions field!
- I then selected the earlier photo (test 1) in the Finder, modified its name with ...(2) and opened it in Photo – no caption!
So, apparently Apple is selective as to which metadata is transferred to which apps.
By the way, I am familiar with the folders that Apple now sends photos in that contain prior versions of the photos, edit history, and so forth; and in this case the folder only contained the photo nothing else.
Thank you SravanKrA, at least now I have a way to get the captions to my laptop.
My next project is apparently to delve into the Apple file structure and protocols to figure out when and how the captions are stored and transferred since I don't necessarily want to use the Photos app on my laptop to collect my photos
