lightning cord will not fit into apple tv remote

I have tried numerous cords and none fit into the siri remote - with a click as with every other apple product. what is wrong?

I'm getting really irritated. On my older Apple TV remote the charging cable for my i7 phone and my new i14 phone slide into and charge the older Apple TV remote smooth as butter.

on my new 3rd generation Apple TV remote, none of my cables will go in the charging port. I thought it was broken so I ordered a new one and it the same.

what's up with that Apple?
