Safari stops working every morning but other browsers are fine

Every morning, I wake up to the same issue. Safari won't connect to ANY web sites. Chrome and Firefox continue to function normally, as do Zoom, etc.

I do not have any extensions installed. Proxies are all off.

I'm running an M1 Mac Studio.

Also, when I select "Restart" all the applications close but the computer never actually restarts until I force restart it.

This error is consistent. Safari will be working fine when I go to bed at night, but then not working in the morning when I'm ready to start work.

Hello boaster_11,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's test in a private window to see if the same thing happens:

"Test with a private window

A website can store cookies, caches, and other data on your Mac, and issues with that data can affect your use of the website. To prevent the website from using that data, view it in a private window: From the menu bar in Safari, choose File > New Private Window, or press Shift-Command-N.

If that works, use the following steps to remove the website's data, including its caches and cookies. The website can then create new data as needed. If it's a website that you sign in to, make sure that you know your sign-in information before continuing.

  1. Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences), then click Privacy.
  2. Click Manage Website Data.
  3. Select the affected website from the list shown.
  4. Click Remove.
  5. Click Done.
  6. Open the website again in a non-private browser window."

Let's also review all of the other recommendations outlined here: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? When did you first notice this? What is your exact macOS version? Also, have you tested on any other networks?

Cheers!

boaster_11,

Based on your issues and findings we'd recommend disconnecting all peripherals from your Mac to test the issue. There you can isolate things and see if your NAS is causing the issue. You can also try rebooting the Mac in safe mode to see if any of your start up items are causing it. You can learn how to do that here:

"Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.

Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.

2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.

3. Select a volume.

4. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar."

Here's the full resource if you need it: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

If things persist we'd recommend reaching out for support here: Get Support

Take care.

I have the same issue. Every morning there are a bunch of apps which don't connect to the internet for no discernible reason. Notably Safari, Mail and Whatsapp. As noted in this thread Chrome seems to work fine. At some point my apps come back to life, but I can't see why. Sometimes I reboot my Mac, sometimes I reboot my router. There's no logic to it that I can tell. Then everything is fine through out the day and next morning it is the same pantomime. I have Fing on my Mac and it highlights there is a problem. Perhaps it is something to do with DNS? It would be great to figure this out (just upgraded to Sonoma and that seems to have added to the flakiness).
