How can I restore the usability of Safari on my iMac

I have an iMac with MacOS Ventura. Safari is so slow on some sites that it can stay dormant for 20 even 30 seconds before opening or completing command. to the point I will start using another browser if I cannot fix the problem. I don't have a lot of in-depth knowledge with computers but can follow simple instructions. I have done some of the things required on the internet but I am concerned some will loose passwords and login details. What is causing this problem and can I fix it? is there some apple software that will do this? I seem to have regressed 20 years in computer terms waiting for response to command and not knowing if the command has been enacted.

Please Help!

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

Hi Sakosmith,

We'll be happy to see how we can help with Safari today and get it back working as it should be.

You mentioned you had tried some steps found on the internet, but didn't mention which steps you had tried. So we're going to start here, If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support. This link has some great steps that you will want to give a try.

If you are still having trouble with Safari, reach back out to us and let us know which iMac we are working with, steps to try can be different between the processor that was installed. You can find this information by going to the Apple menu > About This Mac and let us know the exact model, including the year.

Take care!
