Ad-Hoc network won't work

Hello,
I'm away from home for some weeks and at the place I am I don't have WLAN. But I need to search for some things on the IPT so I'd need it.
So I tried to create an Ad-Hoc network under Windows 7 (I'm Admin).
I've got LAN going in my laptop and want to create WLAN going out of my laptop.
So I created the Ad-Hoc network, everything fine so far, at the PC it worked all fine. I named it "XXXX" and want it to be WPA2.
Then I activated WIFI in my IPT Settings and clicked on the network, typed in the password and then there's the message "Unable to join the network "XXXX"
So I tried to manually connect, typed in the name, security and the password and..the same message.

So now I don't know what to do, I had searched with google but found nothing....
Thank you for your help!

EDIT: My IPT 3G is running on Firmaware 4.0 and my PC is an Windows 7 64 bit. If you need any more information to it's Wifi-Card etc. please say it!

Your laptop is connected to the web via either an ethernet able or 3G dongle, correct? You have enabled sharing of the ethernet or 3G connection, correct?

If both of those statements are true, then try shutting off encryption and see if you can get it working in its simplest form. Ad hocs can be a bit trickier to setup - especially when encryption is involved.

The laptop is connected to the internet via LAN-Kabel.
I've enabled sharing of the internet connection (right click on "LAN-Adapter", "Properties", "Sharing" and then set the top).
I now set the security on "Open" and the key on "no key" but I don't want it this way because then everyone could see the data on my PC and use this internet connection!! It works now, but it's not the security I want it to have :S

No, I agree with you. WEP is not the best solution but at least it is working. I have a feeling that you are experiencing one of those mis-matches in interpreting standards by two different manufacturers. Apple tends to update standards to the latest iteration with each major update. Other manufacturers may not.

The last time I saw this problem was with a 3+ year old router that didn't have any firmware updates available.

I think so, too!
I checked the drivers of my Wireless Card (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN) and there seems to be all up-to-date....but I agree with you, there has to be something with different standarts! Anyway, it's working and as long I don't have it working the whole day but only sometimes I need it and have a secure password the possibility of someone other linkin in should be not that high!
Thank you for your help, anyway 🙂
