TWO odd icons show up on Mac desktop

One morning a few weeks ago, two icons showed up on my desk top.

I scanned them for problems, haven't opened them. Other than an icon, what is this?

Another Mac user had a similar problem and has not been responded to or I would have tagged my question to that one.
