How do I set the default credit card to be used with Apple Wallet?

Apple instructions for How to change the default card for Apple Pay on your iPhone Open the Wallet app.

Touch and hold the payment card that you want to set as your default card. Drag the card in front of your other cards.

This doesn't work for me. The card is not draggable.

What happened was I deleted a card from the wallet and added a new card. I also verified the new card. The deleted card had been the default. I wanted to make the new card the default. But the settings automatically gave me a different default (also in the wallet) that I did not want to be the default. How can I actually make the change?

iPhone SE, iOS 12

Ok, here's the problem with the previous response: you have to START by opening the Wallet app. You CANNOT do this if you bring up the wallet app via double-clicking the side-button twice (that is something slightly different from the Wallet app).

So to summarize:

  1. If you don't have the Wallet app icon on your homescreen, type "wallet" into the search window.
  2. Open Wallet.
  3. Long-Press on the card you want to make the default. PULL IT DOWNWARDS. The default card is not the topmost card but the one that sits on top (frontmost) of the other cards. When you drag your preferred card down, a pop-up will appear that says " '----' is Now Your Default Card". You've won!

This is the solution as of 10 July 2024.

Changing Payment Method When Making GS Payments:

When you are at the Payment Wheel and before you double click to make a payment, it shows the payment method and if you click on it, you can change the payment method. If the payment method is new, you will be asked for the bank details (routing and account number).
