I have the same problem as GAoldlady and many others have asked for help: Here’s the problem: when responding to a text and wanting to refer back to the preceding text, perhaps that had multiple questions in it, I cannot see the text that I am responding to. I can’t scroll up beyond the text that I am writing. The only way I can see the previous text is to send my response and then I can see the text that I was responding to. It’s infuriating because in responding to a text it is helpful to be able to see the text that you’re responding to make sure you are addressing all of the issues in that text.

Hello GAOldLady,

Let's check multiple Messages conversations to see if this happens with all conversations, or only a specific one. That will help us to isolate this further to a conversation specific or app wide conflict.

Additionally, do you use other messaging apps? If so, does this occur with other app when attempting to reply to a message?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward based on those details.

Thank you Astro24! Ok, have auto iCloud backup & IOS 16.4.1 (also set for auto update). According to Siri, icloud backup is sufficient; as far as manually updating to IOS to 16.5, Siri is showing only an IOS 16 version; no mention of a 16.5 ? YouTube has a convoluted video on how a manual update can be performed but states "warnings" to do this, that & the other BEFORE installing ... Good Grief!!

Appreciate ya'll trying to help me w/this issue but "forget about it" ... I'll go to the Xfinity store & let them fix it rather than risk screwing up my phone & wasting ya'll's & my time. Thanks again to everyone!! :)

The only thing that works for me is composing everything that I remember and then I “select all” and I “cut”. (If you’d feel better, you can paste it in a note just in case something happens). Anyways, then you’re able to scroll back and see the previous text, and then you can go back into your reply, paste, and then continue typing.

This works, and thank you for the suggestion.

It is still INSANE that a $1300 phone in 2024 does not come with scrolling-capable software, since, you know, we've had scrolling figured out since the 1980's. Again, Apple is lucky that its image capturing hardware/software is so strong, or I would have run back to Google Pixel a long time ago.

If Apple spent half as much time on its software as it does on its hardware, it would be unstoppable. Instead, it keeps adding columns to a legacy settings menu first programmed in the 90's. Why? My God, why? The settings menu isn't even alphabetized, for Pete's sake. Everything about IOS's backend is a giant middle finger from Apple programmers to its end users, probably because Apple employes nothing but top talent that considers itself too important to ever do any housekeeping tasks. Well guess what? HOUSEKEEPING IS IMPORTANT! Please fix this, Apple.

Thanks!

I will answer. The keyboard is not hidden, and everything is up to date, including the newest iOS update which just rolled out.

Restarting the phone (about 5 times) doesn’t help. This was a problem for a long time. before the new rollout. The text message can be moved up slightly , but it bounces back into place. I created a screen recording to show the problem, but evidently I can’t post it here. If there is a way to do that, let me know.
