Fidelity ATP suddenly stopped working after upgrade to Ventura 13.3.1 (2020 13" MBP w/M1). Tried to reinstall, but installation fails immediately w/o an error code or reason. Some internet searching seems to indicate that the problem is that 13.3.1 does not allow, or work with, .NET Framework, I assume for security reasons. From my layman's understanding, .NET is a x-platform developer platform similar to Java.

I can, or should I, download the latest .NET SDK from MSFT. Is this advisable or safe to do?

Found my own answer. Tried installing ATP on my wife's iMac (intel), which is running Venture 13.3. As part of the installation, the installer downloaded .NET 4.6.2. But more importantly, the installer asked for permission to access the 'Downloads' folder, which it never did on my MBP. So I checked Settings/Privacy & Security / Files and Folders / Installer, and mine (i.e. on the MBP) was defaulted to 'not allow'. So I toggled to 'Allow', restarted the MBP, and ATP installed fine!

Hope this helps anyone else out there with the same problem....

The reality is that Fidelity is responsible for their ATP application working correctly on Ventura 13.3.1, just as it did on prior versions. This is why Apple provides vendors with software development kits (SDKs) for each beta point release of macOS, so they can compile, debug, and test their software against any changes Apple may introduce.

If Fidelity failed to do that beta testing with ATP, then there is every chance that Apple updates that would have been caught in the point release betas are now breaking ATP. Don't assume that ATP is automatically using .NET v7 either, or that Fidelity has kept current with any inherent Microsoft changes to .NET. It is questionable if your installing the current .NET v7 release into Ventura 13.3.1 will resolve the problem or further compound it.

Why not talk to Fidelity about their application? They should be able to advise you on whether Active Trader Pro is even workable on Ventura and by what means. Look before you leap… The latest .NET for macOS Ventura is v7 and if the Active Trader Application is expecting an older version of .NET, it may not work on Ventura even if you did install .NET 7.

I did. And after 1 hr on the phone doing basic stuff - clearing out caches and other library files, closing VPN and any antivirus programs (don't have any), restarting (Mac and router), trying to reinstall ATP, checking Privacy&Security/Gatekeeper, etc - they threw up their arms and said to contact Apple 🤒.

ATP worked fine with Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura up to 13.3. After the 13.3.1 update, the installed version of ATP stopped working. When logging in, it tried to open in a tiny window in the corner of the screen and, after a while, said it had encountered an unrecoverable error and exited.

I believe .NET 7 has been out for more than a year, so ATP had probably been running with it. I am really just asking the Apple experts whether it is smart or recommended to install .NET, or whether it is a security risk ala Oracle Java.....

ATP never worked fine on a Mac. It always hung and crashed. It's terrible. It runs a Windows application under the Wine emulation, and it's horrible. Not only that, it hangs under Windows as well running on a Windows Intel-based computer. Join the investment classes that Fidelity teaches online, and you will see how the instructors struggle with this monster of an application. It hangs and crashes for them during classes, and they run it under Windows. It's been like this for years and years.

I moved all my investments to TDAmeritrade back into n 2020 because of how bad ATP was running on the Max. That was before the first M1 Mac was even released. ATP ran horrible on Intel Macs and it runs horrible on Apple Silicon Macs.

ATO even is issues on Windows, as you can witness if you join any Fidelity trading classes, as the instructors constantly struggle with ATP and have run it on two computers concurrently so that if one of them hangs, they can share the other one into the web conference platform.

ATP is hopeless. It’s been years since I reported these issues to their developers, and nothing has improved. If you want to trade with trading software, switch to another brokerage. Schwab bought TDAmeritrade and they are migrating accounts from Ameritrade over to Schwab, but Schwab decided to keep the Ameritrade trading software - Thinkirswim, because it’s superior to the software that Schwab had before the acquisition.

Thx for your help, Viking. And you are right, Fidelity has been horrible about supporting ATP for MAC. Have been promising for years to creating a version that will run natively on macOS instead in emulation mode, which looks like Win 3.1, crashes and freezes, lags, and sometimes does not update data real-time. ATP is not even available in the App Store, which tells me they are probably not working with Apple. That's why I put more faith in the Apple Community Board.
