I removed my AirPods from my Apple ID and now they will not reconnect to my phone which is tied to that Apple ID. Any ideas?

I removed my AirPods from my Apple ID because only one was working. I continue to have this issue so after several attempts to reset them that didn’t help I decided to remove the from my Apple ID and start over. But now my phone ‘s Bluetooth does not recognize them. What do I need to do to reconnect them?

AirPods (3rd generation)

Hello Rem86,

We see you need help with your AirPods not being able to pair with your iPhone. You mentioned removing them from your Apple ID. We have some questions to clarify exactly what's been done and what you see now.

  • Are you trying to pair them to the same iPhone from before or a new one?
  • Have you tried test pairing another Bluetooth device to your iPhone?
  • Have you tried test pairing those AirPods to another iPhone?

This will help start to narrow down where the issue is. It sounds like you did some of the steps in this article, but it's good to walk through all of them for when your AirPods won't connect: If your AirPods won't connect

If you can't connect to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Make sure that your iPhone or iPod touch has the latest version of iOS or that your iPad has the latest version of iPadOS.
2. Put both AirPods in the charging case and make sure that both AirPods are charging.
3. To make sure that Bluetooth is on, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
4. If your AirPods are connected, make sure that they're selected as your audio device. If your AirPods appear in the list of devices but they don't connect, go to the next step.
5. Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case for up to 10 seconds. The status light on the front of the charging case should flash white, which means that your AirPods are ready to connect.
6. Hold the charging case, with your AirPods inside and the lid open, next to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
7. Follow the steps on the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
8. Test your AirPods. If you still can't connect, reset your AirPods.

We realize you mentioned already resetting them, and those steps do include doing that. It might be helpful to go through the process again along with the other steps. You will also want to make sure the iPhone you are trying to pair them with is fully updated. Let us know how it goes.

Take care.
