If the word is Polish, let "look up" and search for it in a Polish-to-Polish dictionary, and if it's English, then in an English-to-English dictionary. When searching for a Polish word, it's being translated into English because that's the default system language. How can this be changed so that Polish words are indeed given definitions from a Polish dictionary?

Yes, Apple so far has only Polish-English. You will have to search the internet for Polish-Polish.

Sure you can import other dictionaries, just not from Apple. Like I said, you have to find it somewhere on the internet and download it. See if these help

Have you tried playing with the order and checking of the dictionary check boxes in Dictionary app > Preferences?
