car play not muting audio

New car. Toyota Corolla 2023. When using Siri to send texts etc it’s not muting any playing sound such as the radio or pandora etc. I can’t hear Siri speaking over music. I called Apple and they said it always mutes audio except GPS directions. My car dealer has had my car for 4 days over the past two weeks and keeps telling me it’s my phone. Any phone connected to my car does this. Dealership is convinced it’s an iPhone setting. Suggestions? Does your car mute all audio to use Siri? Help.

Just picked up a 2023 UK Corolla - exactly this issue


Carplay has been perfect in every vehicle I’ve owned or driven in the past decade


This implementation whether wired it wireless makes it almost unusable


Is seems that the audio source keeps playing without muting from the left channel and Siri reads messages from the right channel. It’s impossible to use


Even with no audio source playing, dictating a message is a mess. Siri can’t actually play the message back to me ahead of sending - it just cuts off and starts repeating


Terrible. Makes me want to sell the car


My last Toyota (GR Yaris) had perfect Carplay implementation
