I just repurchased an iWatch but noticed I had wristbands similar to my previous iWatch and am using the same wristband from earlier. Can I trade in the unopened wristband for a different kind of wristband?

You will likely need to return the watch and the watch band in the original packaging with all accessories, then choose a different combination. When Apple sells a new Apple Watch, the watch AND band are considered one item.
