DNS not working after sleep / logout

Whenever my Mac goes to sleep or I logout the domain resolving isn't working afterwards. Only after a reboot everything works just normal.

When I ping IPs everything also works normally, but pinging domains is not possible.

Strange thing is that nslookup (and dig) works and resolves the domain, but a curl of the domain does not work.

Things i have tried, but didn't work:

Setting a new DNS IP
Changing the WiFi Network
Safe Boot

MacBook Air

There was a VPN config, that was broken, which was running without me knowing it.

I wasn't aware safe boot will keep those VPN connections on.

You might try flushing the DNS cache.

In the Terminal window, enter the command:

sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Then reboot computer.
