How to remove split screen on iPad?

Has anyone else find the split screen annoying? Does anyone know how to get rid of it on an iPad?

Unlike iPadOS14 and earlier versions, multi-tasking (including split-screen and slide-over views) cannot now be disabled from settings. Multi-tasking has received a significant overhaul with iPadOS15/16, both simplifying its use and introducing new controls.

Key to accessing and controlling (or avoiding) multi-tasking is the small “three-dot” button that is found at the top-centre edge of the visible App windows.

Information and guidance for using multi-tasking can be found in this support page:

Apple does invite submission of comments and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. If you would like to see new configuration options in a future version of iPadOS, that perhaps suppress multitasking views, this would be the most appropriate channel through which to make your request:

The steps outlined in the support document you posted from work perfectly fine. If you have split screen between more than one app, then just tap on the ... dots at the top of one of the split screens and select Close to exit out of split screen or drag the middle divider entirely to one side to close one of the apps or windows.

If you are having a specific issue with the steps, then explain what that is, and someone may be able to help you resolve it.

For split-screen, simply touch-and-hold the drag-handle at the middle of the divider between the two App windows - then drag the divider to the left or right of the screen.

Otherwise, key to accessing and controlling (or avoiding) multi-tasking is the small “three-dot” button that is found at the top-centre edge of the visible App windows.

You need to explore multitasking.

Key to accessing and controlling multi-tasking is the small “three-dot” button that is found at the top-centre edge of each App Window. Tap the multitasking button at the top of the slide-over window to expose a menu - from which you can change the window view.

If you have iPadOS 17.x installed on your iPad - and really wish to neuter the advanced multitasking features of your iPad - you can completely disable multitasking:

Settings > Multitasking & Gestures > [Multitasking] - select OFF

Assuming that you have updated your iPad to iPadOS 17.x, you can completely disable split-screen multitasking from iPad settings:

Settings > Multitasking & Gestures > [Multitasking] - select OFF

My question here on “how to remove the split screen” isn’t answered in this thread.
i do see the three dots at the top center of the screens. By tapping on the dots three options in dealing with the split screens. I choose “full sceen”. I also read that one can’t totally and completely end split screens.

Full screen will make the app take up the entire screen effectively ending Split screen.

Close, will close the app entirely and make the other app take over the entire screen, also ending split screen.

Not sure where you read you can't totally end it, but that is wrong.

Both those options end split screen.

None of this is new. Not to mention, people have been clamoring for more multitasking capabilities in iPadOS for years.
