Set Bootcamp to Default to MacOS

Hello


I have a MBP with bootcamp set up to run OSX Mojave and Ubuntu.


Currently it defaults to Ubuntu (labeled "Windows" in the selection screen), but I want it to default to OSX.

I saw the previous question here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251127976, but the solution requires Windows with the Bootcamp software installed which I clearly don't have.


Is there some other way to set the default boot option?

This thread had an option that worked for me.

The accepted answer has you changing it from within OSX startup disk settings, but on my machine I only had the Mac drive show up in the options for that menu as seen here, which is why I wasn't able to use this method in the first place:

The second method, however, seems to be working: https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/73742

In case the link is broken in the future: It says to hold `ctrl` while clicking the arrow up button under your desired option, which should set the default boot option.

I'll update if anything changes. (And I remember :P)

Why so negative to someone trying to help? I use Ubuntu daily as well as Boot Camp installed Windows. I would like your help and explanation and I'll try to use Boot Camp to install Ubuntu as well.

It was a few years ago so I'm not exactly sure how I did it although I vaguely remember installing Windows and then replacing Windows with Ubuntu. I do think that I used some information from here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro and here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam/CommunityHelpPages. In particular, this guide is the one that says it works for the 10,1: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro11-1/Saucy. TBH, I would probably just use this guide instead of trying to abuse the Bootcamp install if I were to do it again. Again, not really sure how I did it or why I did it that way.


I will note that once I did get it installed, I had quite the time getting any network drivers working. I had to install the wireless driver and all of its dependencies manually by downloading them on another computer and moving them over with a flash drive because neither wireless nor my (Thunderbolt) wired adaptor worked out of the box because whatever version I originally installed did not come with compatible drivers.


In case whatever guide you follow for your machine does not list it (11,1/Saucy does not, for example, but I believe I ended up using something from there since is in the repository list on the machine I downloaded the drivers with), you may also need this repository to get some stuff working: https://launchpad.net/~mactel-support/+archive/ubuntu/ppa


It's also worth noting that this machine is a frankenstein between a MD831LL/A and what was originally a MC976LL/A with a dead 650M so your mileage may vary.


If you are having trouble getting your install to work, let me know and I'll see if I can dig anything up.

Telling me to nuke my setup to solve a boot order issue is not really trying to help answer the original question. The forum trend of person A asking "I have setup X, how do I do Y?" and person B responding with "X is bad, you should have setup Z" while not addressing the actual question of how to do Y is super annoying. It's just plain not helpful and really just comes off as person B indirectly insulting the intelligence of person A by invalidating the issue they are having. I'm not necessarily saying that was your intention, just that it reads that way. Regardless, I appreciate that you took the time to respond and I apologize for being snippy.
