You can turn off iMessage on your device in Settings/Messages.
This will not affect any other devices, in case you just don't want to receive messages on this particular device.

You can use Text messages on an iPad, if you have Text Message Forwarding enabled in Settings/Messages on your iPhone.

I didn’t explain this properly.
I have always used my iPhone & iPad Air to send & receive messages, without using iMessage.
I need to send/receive messages via other Androids, etc.
I’ve already turned off the iMessage option but, when I open messages on my iPad, I cannot even read any messages without signing in to iMessage.
I don’t want to use iMessage
